What you’ll need
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Licence
Valid CBT
Valid Theory test
Strong shoes properly laced – preferably bike boots
Lunch and snacks (or money for some)
Good strong pair of jeans or work trousers – preferably bike jeans
NB: By now we are assuming that youre committed so we generally expect our full and progressive licence trainees to have their own bike gear. We will supply gear if you need it, but CBT students will take priority, so if you haven’t had a chance splash out on all the gear, don’t worry – we’ve got it covered, and it’s included in the cost. You can also use your own bike provided it has an MOT, is fully insured, and has L plates front and rear.
Bikes, fuel, insurance and clothing are included.

Generally our training days involve lot of riding so make sure youre comfortable. We do take breaks as recommended by the Police riding federation (approx 20 mins for every 2 hours riding, and we stop to have discussions about what to look out for.

a1 licence (age 17-19)
If you’re between 17 and 19, you need to take your A1 licence. This entitles you ride a 125cc motorcycle (up to 11kw)without L plates, and passengers are allowed. How long the course takes will depend on your ability and experience, and if you already have a CBT. The time taken can vary from 2 days to 5, but you will need to take a Theory test and both the Mod 1 and Mod 2 tests.
When you turn 19 you will still need to take your Category A2 licence to ride a bike of up to 35kw/46.6bhp.
Feel free to call us on 07921 844952 if you have any concerns. we’ll be happy to chat with you.
a2 licence (age 19-24)
The A2 licence allows you to ride on a bike larger larger than 125cc if you are over 19 years old. The bike you learn on will be a larger bike that is 35kw/46.6Bhp. We use motorcycles that have been restricted especially for this purpose. You have to be at least 19 to take this course.
Once you have passed your Module 1 and Module 2 tests on the restricted motorcycle you will be allowed to ride a bike that has power of up to 35kw/46.6Bhp, with a power to weight ratio not more than 0.2kw per kg.
(You can get a larger motorcycle restricted but you aren’t allowed to restrict it by more than half its power. So if you had a bike that was 105 bhp to begin with you would be more than halving its power.)

a (unrestricted) 24+
To get a category A or full licence you need to be at least 24 or to have ridden on an A2 licence for at least 2 years. (If you’ve ridden on an A2 for two years then you dont need to do a theory test, or have a valid CBT.) You’ll be riding a new or very nearly new bike of at least 40kw/ 53.3BHP, which is what you’ll be entitled to ride when youve completed your Mod 1 and Mod 2 test.
If you’re 24 and never ridden before the Direct Access scheme allows you to take your tests on a larger bike from the word go, although we will probably complete the CBT on a smaller bike. There are many problems that can be ironed out on smaller bikes which will give you more confidence on larger more powerful bikes.
The courses can take between 3 and 6 days depending on your level of ability and experience. We won’t rush you and we won’t try and get as many days out of you as we can. We’ll be honest with you, and we will make sure you can ride properly, not just well enough to pass a test.
